Jensen Huang – Billionaire

Jensen Huang (Chinese: 黃仁勳; pinyin: Huáng Rénxūn; born February 17, 1963) is a Taiwan-born American entrepreneur and businessman. He co-founded the graphics-processor company Nvidia and serves as its president and CEO. Huang graduated from Oregon State University before moving to California where he graduated from Stanford University. As of 2008, Forbes listed him as the 61st highest paid CEO in a list of U.S. CEOs.

Early years

Huang was born in Taiwan. After leaving Oneida Baptist Institute and moving to Oregon with his family, Huang began to play table tennis at a club in downtown Portland and at age 15, he placed third in junior doubles at the U.S. Table Tennis Open. He graduated from Aloha High School, located in the western suburbs of Portland.

Huang received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Oregon State University in 1984, and his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1992. While at Oregon State, he met his future wife Lori, his engineering lab partner at the time. Huang has two children.

Career

After college he was Director of Coreware at LSI Logic and a microprocessor designer at Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD). On his 30th birthday in 1993, Huang co-founded Nvidia and is currently the CEO and President. He owns a portion of Nvidia’s stock worth about USD $1.3 billion as of 2016. He earned $24.6 million as CEO in 2007, ranking him as the 61st highest paid U.S. CEO by Forbes.

Philanthropy

Huang gave his alma mater Stanford University US$30 million that built the Jen-Hsun Huang School of Engineering Center. The building is the second of four that make up Stanford’s new Science and Engineering Quad. It was designed by Boora Architects of Portland, Oregon.

Huang was the recipient in 2007 of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation’s Pioneer Business Leader Award for his work in both the corporate and philanthropic worlds.
