Beaver
The beaver is a large, primarily nocturnal, semiaquatic rodent. Castor includes two extant species, the North American beaver and Eurasian beaver .Beavers are known for building dams, canals, and lodges . They are the second-largest rodent in the world . Their colonies create one or more dams to provide still, deep water to protect against predators, and to float food and building material. The North American beaver population was once more than 60 million, but as of 1988 was 6–12 million. This population decline is the result of extensive hunting for fur, for glands used as medicine and perfume, and because the beavers’ harvesting of trees and flooding of waterways may interfere with other land uses, more info:wiki

The beaver (Castor canadensis) is a herbivorous mammal. It is Canada’s largest rodent and the second-largest rodent in the world (after the capybara). It is primarily nocturnal and lives a semi-aquatic life. The beaver is one of the only mammals, other than humans, that can manufacture its own environment. It is known for building dams, canals and lodges. Its colonies are created by one or more beaver-built dams, which provide still and deep water for protection against predators. An emblem of Canada older than the maple leaf, the beaver has had a greater impact on Canadian history and exploration than any other animal or plant species.
Beavers measure up to 1.3 m from snout to paddled tail and weigh 16–35 kg. The thickset body of the beaver is covered with dark, reddish brown fur consisting of coarse guard hairs over dense, insulating under-fur. The large mass-to-surface ratio and the dense, insulating fur adapt it for a semi-aquatic existence in water that is often ice cold. Oil secreted by two glands near the anus is applied by the beaver to waterproof its fur. After swimming under water for six or seven minutes the beaver is not wet to the skin.

Beavers are iconic, distinctively flat-tailed, semi-aquatic mammals that were historically found in rivers all across mainland Britain. They were renowned as nature’s landscape architects and river engineers.
But appallingly, beavers were hunted to extinction in Britain several hundred years ago. Their gorgeous furry pelts were irresistible, it seems, and their anal glands were harvested for traditional medicine, perfume and even flavouring.
Things started to change in the 2000s. Wild beavers were sighted in Perthshire in Scotland, and in 2009 a population was officially released at Knapdale, out west in Argyll.

Beaver kits are just as aww-worthy as puppies and kittens, and to prove it, we’ve put together a gallery of some of our favourites. We recommend grabbing a cushion because these baby beavers enjoying life, exploring the world, and being ultimate fuzzballs will make you want to squeeze something.
