David Bowie’s “Beat of Your Drum” is reworked into bruising, majestic art-rock in a 2018 mix of the track. The new version appears on the Loving the Alien (1983-1988) box set, a collection of Bowie’s studio and live albums from that era.
Sawing strings and David Torn’s crashing guitars highlight the cut, which originally appeared on Bowie’s 1987 LP, Never Let Me Down. “Torn’s ambient guitars start the song that now lead into a much darker world than its shiny predecessor,” producer Mario McNulty said in a statement, Stereogum notes. “David sang all the backing vocals on this which I have kept.”

As Kevin Hunt reports for the Conversation, some people mistakenly assume it was caused by heterochromia, a condition in which a person has two different iris colors. It’s hereditary and usually harmless, and the condition is in fact much more common in dogs, cats, and horses. Heterochromia can be expressed as two outright different colors, like actress Kate Bosworth’s hazel right eye and blue left eye, or a variegation of an iris color, like Mila Kunis’s, which are a lighter brown in one eye and a darker tinge in the other.

To mark what would have been the late music icon’s 72nd birthday, Parlophone will release ‘Spying Through A Keyhole’ a box set of nine 7″ singles that includes the earliest known versions of the now legendary ‘Space Oddity.’
As for the title of the box-set, it’s taken straight from ‘Love All Around’ – a previously unknown song that was released for the first time last year.

Behind the fey, otherworldly personas, Bowie was a shrewd financial operator who wasn’t afraid to dabble in new ways to monetise his output.
He was the first major artist to securitise royalty streams, selling $55 million worth of “Bowie Bonds” in 1997. The bonds, initially offering investors a return of 7.9 per cent, were tied to the future earnings of his back catalogue, which included songs such as ‘Space Oddity’ and ‘Changes’.
The move paved the way for dozens of artists – including James Brown, Rod Stewart and Iron Maiden – to follow suit.
The bonds eventually crashed in 2004, downgraded by Moody’s to one notch above junk status, as the impact of digital downloads eroded traditional music sales.
