200 Clarendon Street, previously John Hancock Tower and colloquially known as The Hancock, is a 60-story, 790-foot (240 m) skyscraper in Boston. The tower was designed by Henry N. Cobb of the firm I. M. Pei & Partners and was completed in 1976. In 1977, the American Institute of Architects presented the firm with a National Honor Award for the building, and in 2011 conferred on it the Twenty-five Year Award. It has been the tallest building in Boston and New England since 1976,More info:wiki

The John Hancock Center is getting a name change, nearly a decade after another of Chicago’s most beloved skyscrapers — the Sears Tower — switched identities and caused a civic uproar.

Owners of the 100-story John Hancock Center said the building’s namesake, the insurance company that built the tower almost five decades ago, asked that its name and logos throughout the building’s interior be removed immediately.

The Hancock is the city’s fourth-tallest building, at 1,128 feet.

For now the building will be known by its address, 875 North Michigan Avenue, as the owner seeks a new naming-rights deal, said Stephen Hearn, president and CEO of Hearn Co.

It’s one of the most iconic office towers in the world. But battered by bankruptcy, foreclosure and other highly public setbacks, the Hancock Tower had a vacancy rate of over 30%.

Throughout the country, office towers have been adding ground floor retail to attract diners and shoppers and bring life to the streetscape. While this seemed the natural way to go for the Hancock Tower, our research unveiled that tenants actually didn’t want tourists and shoppers in their way. To help the tower stand out in this challenging landscape, we ended up taking an entirely different approach.

One of Chicago’s signature buildings is changing its John Hancock.

John Hancock insurance company is removing its name from its eponymous landmark tower. The company requested on Monday that its name and logos be removed from the John Hancock Center’s interior, effective immediately, according to the Chicago Tribune. The insurance company hasn’t been a tenant in the building for several years.

Going forward, the building will be known by the address, 875 N. Michigan Ave.

Ownership is in the market for a new naming-rights deal, Hearn Co. CEO Stephen Hearn told the Tribune. Hearn makes up a portion of a group of real estate investors that went in on the office and parking portions of the building in 2013.

It feels like just yesterday that Chicagoans were told that their prized skyscraper, once the world’s tallest building, would no longer be named the Sears Tower.

“Call it the Big Willy,” encouraged the CEO of the company that had bought the naming rights. But it’s been almost nine years, and while some folks do call it the Willis Tower, few do it with much gusto. And no one calls it Big Willy.

Now Chicagoans are losing the name of another beloved skyscraper: the John Hancock Center.

John Hancock Financial, the building’s namesake, asked for its name and logos to be removed from the building immediately, The Chicago Tribune reports. The insurer hasn’t been a tenant in the building for years. The company is now owned by Manulife Financial, based in Toronto.

Yesterday the owners of the John Hancock Center announced that the building is looking for a new name. The Chicago Tribune reported that the building’s namesake, the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co., has removed all of its logos and branding from the property, leaving the 100-story skyscraper nameless. Until the naming rights are sold, the home of the Signature Room and 360 CHICAGO observation deck will simply go by its address, 875 North Michigan Avenue.
