High school basketball players often look up to NBA players.
For one day, the Lindale Eagles and Mabank Panthers will get to play on the same court as the pros and then watch a professional basketball game that night.
Lindale will take on Mabank at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Later that day, the Dallas Mavericks will host the Houston Rockets for a 5 p.m. tipoff.
Fans who purchase a ticket to the game between Lindale and Mabank will also be able to watch the Mavericks’ game against the Rockets.
“We are really excited about this,” Lindale head boys’ basketball coach Chris Grotemat said. “The Mavericks have a program called ‘Court of Dreams’ where they host a high school game periodically throughout their schedule. We tried to do it a year ago. You have to sign up a year in advance and go through a lottery system, and we were not one of the teams selected, so we tried again this year. I got a phone call on Monday from Heather Thompson with the Mavericks that we had been selected. We are excited about the opportunity.”
