These days, Ryan Reynolds is one of Hollywood’s highest-paid stars thanks to his success as the foul-mouthed superhero star of 20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool” movies. But more than two decades ago, Reynolds was happy just to make $150 a day for his first professional acting gig.

“For me, I thought I was, like, a gajillionaire,” Reynolds told Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan in an interview that aired on ABC in 2016. “For $150 a day, it was like a dream come true.”

Now, Reynolds is primed for a much bigger payday with 20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool 2” sequel hitting theaters on Friday.

Reynolds got $2 million in base salary for starring in the first “Deadpool” two year ago, while the actor also reportedly received several million dollars more in bonuses after that movie set box-office records. According to Forbes, Reynolds was one of Hollywood’s 20 highest-paid actors last year, pulling in $21.5 million.

Six Underground is the title of Michael Bay’s latest big-budget blockbuster. It’s directed by the Transformers head honcho, stars Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds, and will be shooting in Abu Dhabi as of November.

The movie promises to be a collision of Deadpool and Mission Impossible, which sounds intriguing if nothing else. Of more interest to audiences may be the fact that stars including Ryan Reynolds and Dave Franco are currently attached to the project, and that it is set to be Netflix’s biggest-spending film to date, with a budget of around $125 million (Dh460 million).

The National understands that pitches are already being taken by twofour54 Abu Dhabi, who will act as local producers on the project, for everything from extras to cameramen to hospitality and wardrobe, although no one from twofour54 was available to comment.

The campaign leans heavily into absurdist humor—Kuntz’s specialty—beginning with a spot simply called “PSA,” in which the Deadpool actor describes a “problem” he’s been battling since arriving in Hollywood.
