Pierce Brosnan has come full circle.
The Irish-born actor, who launched his acting career in America in 1982 as the debonair con man of “Remington Steele,” returns to TV on Saturday. In the decades between, he became an international star thanks to a quartet of films as James Bond, which also made him a fabulously wealthy man. He’s been featured in everything from comedies (“Mrs. Doubtfire”) and remakes (“The Thomas Crown Affair”) to star-driven vanity projects (Barbra Streisand’s “The Mirror Has Two Faces”) and even musicals (“Mamma Mia!”), all the while keeping his wits about him and stardom intact. Talk about resilience.
#7 ME AND MY MOTOR: PIERCE BROSNAN, ACTOR AND FORMER 007,More info:driving
DRIVING a beaten-up cop car isn’t as glamorous as putting the pedal to the metal in the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish he drove in his 007 heyday, but Pierce Brosnan (pictured above with a 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500) is not complaining.
“I was a hair’s breadth from becoming a cop myself,” he says, reflecting on his role as a detective in the film Spinning Man. “It was either that or the army. I was about 17, rudderless and trying to figure out life. But the gods were with me and I ended up being a thespian.”
Brosnan, 65, grew up in Navan, a market town in Co Meath. His father left the family when he was an infant, so he was brought up by his grandparents while his mother left to work as a nurse in England. He joined her and her new husband aged 11, left school at 16 and spent some time as a circus fire-eater before winning his first acting roles.
His first car was a Ford Anglia sold to him by his stepfather for £50 when he was 18. “The driver’s door was broken,” he says. “You had to sort of hold it up to get in. It’s the same car Harry Potter drove off into the sky with.”
Having started out in theatre, Brosnan began to get screen roles, eventually starring in the American detective series Remington Steele and accepting the role of James Bond on the second time of asking — the first time, the role went to Timothy Dalton because Brosnan was signed up for another series of Remington Steele.

Pierce Brosnan’s “The November Man” had been a movie long in the process until its premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Wednesday. It was on the radar for Brosnan and producing partner Beau St. Clair after Brosnan retired from his role of James Bond in 2005. Though originally scripted for Berlin, the film’s crew, alongside director Roger Donaldson, needed to scope out new locations to satisfy production costs.
Donaldson wanted to shoot in Belgrade, Serbia, as well as base the film’s script in Serbia, after his production crew recommended he visit. “We’ve seen Berlin a lot of times, but we’ve never seen Serbia in a commercial movie. So I was very enthusiastic about shooting it in Serbia,” Donaldson explained. “The Serbian people and the Serbian crew, nobody ever, ever complained about anything, they just worked their butts off.”

James Bond star Pierce Brosnan hopes #MeToo will bring “more respect” between the genders but he does not think the movement will change Agent 007’s character.
The 65-year-old actor, who has played the casanova British spy in four films of the franchise, said he is unaware if the new Bond films will incorporate the tectonic shift brought about by the post-Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal, Metro.com reported.
